Who will win STATE?!! Big games start tomorrow and end on Saturday at Sleep Train in Sacramento,Ca. Several returning teams will be back to be crowned Champion for the first and some will be there to defend their title. Pinewood will be looking for its sixth state championship, La Jolla Country Day won the state championship two years ago, these two teams will face each other Friday at 10am. Chaminade looking to get its first championship title against Archbishop Mitty who has five titles under Coach Sue, these two teams will meet up Saturday at 2pm. Modesto Christian who has battled the injuries early in the season is finally healthy at the right moment. Coach Spencer is looking to take the title for the first time, the will face Santa Barbra Friday at 2pm. Pleasant Grove who will be making their first appearance at State will face Canyon Springs Friday at 6pm. Pleasant Grove was able to get a BIG win over Berkeley with the help of Brittany Nguyen at the point and Aaliyah Pena in the post.
Coming off of big wins in the Open Division, Salesian who beat Miramonte and Long Beach Poly who took down Mater Dei will meet up on Saturday at 6pm. Long Beach Poly who reloaded with some powerhouse talent will be looking to become back to back state champions. Salesian was here last year and fell short to Serra High, so the pain is still there and their determined to not let it happen again. It will be a battle in the post area as Long Beach Poly’s Lajahna Drummer, Jada Matthews, and Ayanna Clark will be expected to go to work as usual. Salesian post players need to be ready for the physicality but they have some size to match with their well over 6 foot posts Zoe Correal and Deja Stallworth. Each team has a McDonald’s All American, Salesian with Mariya Moore and Poly with Lajahna Drummer.
